COVID-19-related temporary closure

Dear All,
We are happy to update you with the news that all our furloughed staff will have access to at least 100% of their wages thanks to a combination of California Unemployment Insurance and federal funds made available through the CARES Act. The CARES Act was signed into law on Friday, and has made an extra $600 per week per employee available through July 31. Staff on furlough remain on our payroll (just without being paid), and the new law provides that they are entitled to these benefits while not required to prove that they are looking for other work. All of your friends who work at the gym are still Stronghold employees, and we hope and expect the whole team to be back when all of this is behind us.
Given this change, the membership dues that many of you so generously opted-in to continue paying are no longer needed. We therefore do not plan on billing anyone anything on April 1.
Members will remain on a free freeze until the happy day we are able to re-open.
Pre-paid memberships will be extended by the unhappy period we are closed.
We are bracing ourselves for the possibility of an extended closure.  As the situation evolves we will keep you updated, especially in regard to how our staff are faring, and to our re-opening plans.
We will emerge on the other side of this crisis stronger than ever. We’ll take some hits but we’ll be closer than ever to our climbing community. For this to be a reality, we need your health to remain intact -- and also the health of the local economy, as it provides the wages that fund your membership dues.
To get us there, we suggest that you,
  • Prioritize your health. Don’t sink too far into the couch or make your new habit one too many drinks. Simple things like eating fresh foods and taking a walk go a long way to ensuring that you will be ready to climb when this is over.
  • Follow the “Safer at Home” order and be conservative about taking risks while recreating.
  • Support local small businesses. We can say with authority they’re hurting now. They make our city a wonderful place to live, so please try to direct whatever dollars you spend toward them.
  • Look for ways to lend a hand. From giving blood, to volunteering with the LA Regional Food Bank, to checking in on a neighbor, every act of kindness makes us all stronger.
To help keep you sane, we have been busy working on some at-home fitness videos featuring some of our yoga instructors as well as resident strength guru, Medvis. We look forward to sharing those videos in the near future.
Thank you for your solidarity in this time. We are wishing you the best through this crisis, and are very much looking forward to more social days.
